Jon Huntsman will be nominated to be U.S. Ambassador to Russia by President Donald Trump, the White House announced Tuesday.

This position is now more high-profile than before because of the investigation into Russia meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, Reuters reported.

The position requires confirmation by the U.S. Senate. Huntsman served in the same role to China during the Barack Obama administration.

If Huntsman is confirmed, he will be heading to Russia amid the investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia during the 2016 election.

Huntsman served as Ambassador to Singapore from 1992 to 1993 and Utah’s governor from 2005 to 2009 before becoming Ambassador to China under Obama in 2009.

Trump said he wants to improve relations with Russia, Reuters reported. Trump previously criticized Huntsman as too deferential to China when the latter sought the Republican nomination for president in 2012.
